It was nice to hear from Sarah. He has been away on a bib book opening. He discusses the Manicheans people. He speaks of Sarah as brighting his path in Savannah and the memories and last she won his heart. He continues about living in a house full of books written by people long ago and those of by people of there times. (he gives many names)He wants her to visit to share his tresured books. Thinking of the "Golden Books". Wants to hear from her frequently. Remember him to her father. Letteris unsigned.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
